Stephen Chow Developing Thai-Chinese Team-Up Flick

What do you get when you mix Thai director Banjong Pisanthanakun (Shutter, The ABCs Of Death) with Chinese writer, director and action star Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer )? No idea but GTH wants to find out, according to The Hollywood Reporter. .

Pisanthanakun’s comedic horror film Pee Mak Phrakanong destroyed Thai box office records recently, and Chow wrote, directed and starred in the international hits Hustle and Soccer, so this is a potentially gigantic team-up.

The film will be a co-production between the two countries, but shot with Chinese actors speaking Chinese. All these elements working together are something of a political move. As THR points out, China only allows 34 films from out of country to be imported every year with American blockbusters filling up the slots pretty quickly. Thailand’s been pushing for film import law reform, but it’s not happening yet. GTH is clearly hoping that audiences will clamor for whatever they’ve got cooking with Chow.

Since there’s no title or story to talk about just yet, what do you want to see from Chow and Pisanthanakun? They’re both known for playing with genres and bringing disparate elements together, so there’s a lot of possibilities here.
