Songs Of Summer “Airplanes” by B.o.B and Hayley Williams

I just started hearing this song over the past few weeks and kind of dig it, but this is the first time I’ve seen the video. I think the basic idea of wishing that airplane lights were stars to wish on is kind of brilliant and surprising to hear in a pop song. I don’t know anything about B.o.B, but I just discovered that the girl singing the refrain is the lead singer from Paramore, a band I fell in love with a couple summers back and will soon have its own entry on SOS. It’s pretty damn catchy, but the video doesn’t really do a lot for me. Mopey kids in a club and a singer popping out through a hallway movie screen? Eh. I do, however like how the pictures come to life.

Unlike yesterday’s entry of “Wrong Way” by Sublime, this is more of a summer night song, one you’ll hear while driving back late at night from a party or hanging out with friends. Were I in high school, it would be the kind of song I’d both love and hate to hear right before going away to college and seeing all my friends leaving or staying. I’m a sap that way I guess.
