Sites like Deadline are reporting that Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake has been pushed back from its original release date of October 25th to November 27th.
Have you guys read about McAfee Anti Virus creator John McAfee’s real life adventures as chronicled in Wired? They’re pretty insane and very movie-ready. It makes sense, then, that Deadline‘s reporting a film in the works with Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write and John Requa and Glenn Ficarra to direct.
The Warner Archives just announced that they’ve got The Carey Treatment for sale. This Blake Edwards directed film stars James Coburn as a shrink investigating a colleague’s supposed crime. The film’s based on a book by Michael Crichton called A Case Of Needs.
According to TheWrap, Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is in talks with Paramount to direct Alpha, a film about “a Navy Seal sent to South America to train dogs for combat service.”
Scott C. has a killer art blog called The Great Showdowns where he draws adversaries from various movies. Today’s installment features Jesse Ventura as Blain from Predator with his gigantic gun going up against a jungle camouflaged Predator. Awesome.
The awesome Jen Van Meter did me a solid and talked about her Five Favorite Avengers for Marvel.com.
I’ve also been super busy writing about comics over CBR including this great interview I did with Joe Keatinge. If you dig the logo of me and the chimp at the top of the page, check out my pal Rickey Purdin’s other sketches for possible logos over on Rowdy Schoolyard.
I do not care about the Watchmen prequels, but I dug my pal Brett White’s take on it for CBR.
Wish I had thought of doing this Godzilla misconceptions list for Topless Robot.
I am very excited to listen to Jack White’s very first solo album. It’s called Blunderbuss and drops in April. Something to look forward to! (via Rolling Stone)Scott C did an Over The Top Showdown! Awesome!
Alan Lomax was a dude who went around the country recording folk, blues and country artists to create an aural history of American music. According to Rolling Stone, his archives are being digitized and will be streaming and sold as CDs, this is very cool news.
Dave Grohl and Dana Gould are working on a rock star based sitcom for FX? Considering how solid all the FX comedies are and how much I like the Foo Fighters and Gould, this should be an excellent show. (via THR)
Finally, if you’re interested in this sort of thing, I’m selling a never opened Garindan Long-Snoot minibus from Gentle Giant over on eBay. Happy bidding.
Well, between traveling for Christmas to New Hampshire, getting a flat tire ten minutes from home and surviving the Snowpocalypse of last night (we got 18-24 inches), I haven’t had a lot of time for blogging. Anyway, I did read a few things here and there and wanted to pass the goodness along. Sure it’s a little late now, but Scott C posted a Showdown from Elf and I just had to link to it. That’s one of my all time favorite Christmas movies and possibly Will Ferrell’s best performance.
Tim Bruckner’s DC Dynamics Joker statue looks amazing, check out some of the shots over on Pop Sculpture.
I don’t think I knew that George Romero and Marvel were working on a project together. Thanks Comic Books Legends Revealed!
Hugh Hefner got engaged again? Wonder if Bridget or Holly are pissed. The missus and I were big fans of Girls Next Door. (via Esquire)
I really enjoyed Jonathan Hickman’s early issues of Fantastic Four, but fell off the wagon along with a lot of other books a while back. I’ve heard good things about it still, but this whole “killing off a member of the FF and putting it in a polybag” reeks of 90s moneygrubbing. Reed’s already “died” once, right? Ah well, I’m sure I’ll catch up on the trade eventually. (via Robot 6)
Finally, Archie Comics released this mysterious teaser that lots of places, including Robot 6, think might be a way of announcing a new Mega Man comic. Depending on how they handle this book, it could be either a really good kids comic or an interesting look at a character with a deep, deep mythos just waiting to be explored by a great comic book writer. I’m available for either, even though I’m not technically a comic book writer. Just wanted to throw that out into the internet ether.
