On this week’s episode, Matt Bond and I finish up our talk about our decades-long relationship with Weezer and how we’ve both decided to embrace them, Ride Or Die, though we each got there in different ways. If you missed out on part one, you can listen to it here.
Also, if you’re curious, these are the custom made CDs Bond mentioned:
I actually had a pretty good time compiling last year’s list of my favorite albums of the year and figured now’s as good a time as any to get around to this year’s. The funny thing about this year is that, while I probably acquired more CDs than I have in quite a while thanks to flea markets, garage sales and sales, I didn’t actually buy a lot of new music. New to me of course, but not new new. So, with that in mind, I’ll probably do another post about my favorite new-to-me discs of the year next week. Anyway, my favorite records of the year are a mix of smokey rockers, soul sisters, pop rock stalwarts, metal dudes, collaborators, introspective song writers and more. Hit the jump for the full list! I saw this video for Weezer’s “Memories” featuring the dudes from Jackass before heading off for a long weekend in Massachusetts with the missus, in-laws and some other family members, but couldn’t find it, which is why it took me so long to post. Anyway, I’ve never been a huge fan of Jackass and Weezer hasn’t been wowing me too much lately, but I really dug this video. First up, it feels like an older school Weezer song. Second, the whole idea of memories and wanting to go back to good times has been on my mind. The lyrics made me think first of a magical time at Wizard when all my boys were not only living in the same state, but also in a nearby area allowing us to hang out together. Then, I was thinking about my buddies from T-Town who I miss every day and then my friends from college who I also miss all the time (no offense on the order guys). I try not to get too sentimental because, well, it kind of sucks missing nearly everyone you know.
Anyway, good song, good feeling and even though I’m not a huge fan of Jackass, I really admire those dudes for being able to not only get famous together, but also stay friends over all these years (the show premiered on MTV 10 YEARS AGO, the skating videos well before that). Good on them!
