The Challenge Rivals Season Finale “At The End Of The World”

So, THAT happened. I might not have exactly called the victors this season, but nothing really surprised me about this Challenge finale. I’m actually not really sure how to write this one up as there was so much back and forth, but I’ll do my best. It’s a lot to take in, but also not particularly exciting or interesting. If you want to know who won, you’ll have to hit the jump. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Season Finale “At The End Of The World”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 9 “The Storm Before The Storm”

Wow. One really big unexpected thing happened on this (presumably) penultimate episode of The Challenge Rivals and then a bunch of other stuff that played out pretty much how you would expect it. However, that one unexpected thing did get my pulse racing and me shouting at my TV (what do you expect, it’s been months since I watched football?). It was pretty intense. The episode included the continuation of the confrontation between CT and Johnny from the previous episode, the final Jungle between Johnny and Tyler and CT and Adam, another change of locale, some more housemate drama and the beginning of the finale! Hit the jump to see how it all went down. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 9 “The Storm Before The Storm”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 8 “Cry For Me, Argentina”

Tonight’s episode of The Challenge: Rivals was packed with drunken debauchery, travel to exotic places, intrigue, one of the lamest challenges I’ve ever seen, betrayal, callbacks to previous seasons, romance, fights, tension, drunken arguments, a piano in danger, soda soaking and the most hated three words in the history of television: To Be Continued. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 8 “Cry For Me, Argentina”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 7 “Blood On The Dance Floor”

Well, tonight’s episode of The Challenge: Rivals had a few surprises, but nothing particularly interesting. Actually, the team that lost the challenge was kind of surprising and that fact that a certain someone didn’t punch someone else and get sent home. Oh and I was surprised that one cast member wound up sticking up for themselves pretty hardcore. But that’s about it, except for a break-up of sorts. Okay, I guess it was kind of surprising. Hit the jump to find out the specifics. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 7 “Blood On The Dance Floor”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 6 “Blowup”

I don’t think I’ve enjoyed an episode of Rivals as much as I did tonight’s. There was weird relationship stuff, a close challenge, an actual rivalry bubbling to the surface between teammates, a plan coming together (kinda), a big talker turning out to be useless, a Jungle victory I was happy to see and, the icing on the cake, The Miz hosting the aftershow with CT, Wes, Evan, Nehemiah, Laurel and Mandi. You know the drill, if you’re curious, hit the jump to see what’s up. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 6 “Blowup”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 4 “D-Day”

I just today realized that this didn’t run two weeks ago when it was supposed to for some reason. If anyone’s still interested, here’s my thoughts on the fourth episode of The Challenge: Rivals.

Oh Challenge contestants, when will you learn? After an incredibly shrewd move by Paula and Ev that pitted two solid teams in the Jungle in last week’s episode, I thought people might start playing this game smart. Hell, if no one else, Mike, the evil super genius should be deceptively running that shit. Instead, the closest thing to a plan we got was a rehash of an idea from the very end of that same episode where the brain trust of Kenny, Wes, Evan and Johnny decided that they need to have Evan throw the challenge and then get everyone else to vote CT and Adam in. It was a stupid plan, Ev called them on it and it wound up not working out, but you’ll have to read on to find out why and how these doofuses should be playing the game better (from a dude sitting on his cough drinking a beer, no less). Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 4 “D-Day”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 5 “Ill Communication”

I’ll give tonight’s episode of The Challenge: Rivals one thing, it had a few surprises. They’re not really surprises I cared much about, but they were there. I realized something while watching tonight’s episode: the female teams this season are not very interesting. Maybe it’s because they’re not as braggadocios as the fellas or because they’re not really playing the game (the strategic part of the game, I mean, not the challenges and what not) the way the guys are, but I’m pretty bored with them for the most part. It also seems like they’re just generally weaker. I don’t mean that in a general “men strong, women weak” way, but that–aside from Ev and Paula–these specific women don’t really feel like contenders. It doesn’t help that the men are basically running things and no one male or female has decided to stand up to them. Ah well, hit the jump for all the deets. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 5 “Ill Communication”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 3 “Underdog Day Afternoon”

There was a pretty shocking moment in tonight’s episode of The Challenge: Rivals. No, it wasn’t a potentially bone-crushing injury one of the cast members suffered, nor the ruse perpetrated by one of the teams, it was Paula playing the game with her head instead of her heart. How, you ask? Read on, friends! Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 3 “Underdog Day Afternoon”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 2 “Through The Looking Glass”

I had some problems with tonight’s episode of The Challenge: Rivals and I’m not talking about people playing the game stupidly, pointless fights or them cheering for friends instead of people they should want to be sent home. I’m peeved because MTV has been really sloppy with a lot of the editing and previews they’ve created and how spoiler filled they have been. It’s frustrating. To find out what I’m talking about and what the above picture is, hit the jump! Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 2 “Through The Looking Glass”

The Challenge Rivals Episode 1 “Welcome To The Jungle”

Oh man, I’ve been looking forward to The Challenge: Rivals for a while now. In case you were unaware, this season pairs people up who have had a tumultuous history on previous Challenges or Real World seasons. Some of them are pretty dead-on while others seem pretty flimsy, but if you’re not sure why some of these folks dislike each other, they not only run down the history of Challenges past, but also get specific with what happened. A few still left me scratching my head, but everyone can’t be Evan or Paula, am I right? We’re tossed into the beginning of the episode with sound bites of the various contestants dumping on one another with Robin having the best: “You couldn’t pick a bigger cast of assholes.” True enough. Hit the jump to see who the biggest of the bunch is. Continue reading The Challenge Rivals Episode 1 “Welcome To The Jungle”
