The Gap Commercials Must Be Stopped

I know I said that I was torn as to whether I liked Gap’s first dance-filled holiday commercial, but now they’re just getting ridiculous. I can almost guarantee that I watch more TV than the average person, which means I also see more than my fair share of commercials, but few drive me crazier than these Gap ones. First there was one where kids were pointing at sweaters on the butts of adults (which Gap doesn’t have on YouTube interestingly enough), then there was one with a small group of adults talking about how clothes make better gifts than technologically-oriented ones, but now we’re got this ad featuring a string of young girls singing about dresses, boots and moose. If you can tell what the hell they’re saying at the very end, you’ve got better ears than me. I’m not advertising genius, but I would imagine a commercial that is completely incomprehensible is not a good ad. Judge for yourself:

  1. I was watching TV with my dad over Thanksgiving and after seeing this commercial a couple times, I explained the situation. He now refers to it as “TJ’s commercial” and notes to me how many times he has seen it since being laid up following his surgery.

  2. I actually rather like this commercial. The first time I saw it I too was very “….Huh?” but the more I see it, the cuter it gets. I don’t really understand all the moose nonsense, but I can live with that.

  3. I too critique all the commercials I see (more than the average person) but I actually like this one. It definitely grew on me maybe because the girls are just so darn cute. But I agree that the one about Gap clothes being better than tech gifts is eh.
