Christmas Stories: Neil Diamond’s The Christmas Album (1992)

For serious, Neil Diamond’s The Christmas Album is my favorite solo Christmas album of all time. I got turned onto it when I was younger because, like with most of my favorite Christmas movies and records, my parents had it. Thus begun my love of Neil Diamond. What I like most about this record is how much fun Neil seems to have singing these songs. He’s a big, blustery singer and that really comes across on his versions of songs like “O Come, O Come Emmanuel/ We Three Kings Of Orient Are,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “O Holy Night.” On other songs like “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” and “Jingle Bell Rock” Neil rocks out in that typical Neil “Comin’ To America” fashion. The rest of the tracks are all pretty standard Christmas album fare and all done really well, with the only original track being “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” which should be up there with the other standards in my personal opinion. So there you have it, yet another glimpse into my Christmas past and present, what are some of your favorite Christmas records?
