Ad It Up: Banana Walkie Talkies & Compass

I figured I’d run into some strangeness while reading through a stack of Power Man and Iron Fist issues in The Box, but I didn’t think it would be on the back cover. This ad was on the pack of PM&IF #59 from 1979 and it’s super weird. Apparently Chiquitta thought that children in the late 70s would go, ahem, bananas for a pair of banana shaped walkie talkies and/or a banana compass. They even went so far as to tell you how to play with it in an odd story about alien abductions and how the banana gear helped some kids escape. In addition to paying $13.95 and $2.50 respectively, kids needed to get a group of stickers together as well. Anyone ever have these bad boys?
