Tonight’s episode of Big Bang Theory got out of the Penny/Sheldon equation and focused squarely on Sheldon’s relationship with Amy which fell apart after the two got into an argument about whose science was more important. After that he gets cats, a lot of them until his mom shows up (played by Laurie Metcalf, also of Roseanne fame). She’s fantastic every time she shows up. Let’s jump into the live blog shall we?8:00pm – Amy and Sheldon are hanging out playing some weird game called “Counterfactuals” which asks questions based on a world like our own with one significant change like a beaver leader. Leonard tries to play, makes a joke, but it doesn’t get a laugh from these two. It’s a very complicated and somewhat annoying game.

8:02pm – Shamy is not impressed with Leonard’s answer. Amy suggests playing Hide and Seek with him as it would be more his speed.

8:05pm – Leonard brings up a new paper, but Raj calls spoiler warning as he printed it out to read on the potty. Howard gives him shit for saying potty.

Amy very scientifically tells the gang that they were late because she had to get feminine hygiene products. She apparently wears them all the time so as not to get surprised.

8:06pm – Amy doesn’t like Shamy. The Amy/Penny dynamic is a fun one.

“You’re right he’s a festival of humdrum chitchat.” – Amy.

8:07pm – Howard tries to ask Amy how her work is, but she says none of them would understand it

“They can’t function without me, I’m the social glue that holds this little group together.” – Sheldon to Amy in front of the group.

8:08pm – Back at the apartment, Leonard tells Sheldon he doesn’t think that Amy fits in with their “little Rebel Alliance.”

“I’ve always been more of an Empire man.” – Sheldon. No shocker there.

“Amy is judgmental, sanctimonious and just obnoxious.” -Leoanrd. “So?” – Sheldon. Well we already have you for all that.” – Leonard.

Leonard just wants him to be with Amy elsewhere. Sheldon comes back with a litany of problems he had with Penny, claiming to have suffered in silence.

8:09pm – Now Raj, Howard and Leonard are hanging out over at Penny’s house. Howard tells Raj that Rockies are in Philadelphia because of the movie Rocky.

8:10pm – Raj is drinking so he can talk to Penny. Penny says he’s an ass when he drinks, Howard says he’s always an ass.8:11pm – Penny uses a pumice stone on her feet and Howard says she’s doing it wrong, that he does this for his mom all the time.

The next day Raj has a hangover. Apparently the night before he drank all Penny’s beer then went to the gas station to buy 40s, Slim Jims and Bombay Badonkadonk.

8:12pm – Howard refers to Shamy as Yoko and Yoko.

Whoa, Amy dogged Sheldon’s theoretical physics, calling it cute. She’s a neurobiologist. Sheldon asks her to take her burn back, she says she will not.

8:13pm – Sheldon argues that the Grand Unified Theory will ipso facto describe the brain. Amy says that by mapping the brain, any thoughts will fall under her purview, meaning that even if he does understand everything, it’s because she can understand that understanding. Now it’s a lot of science stuff I won’t pretend to understand.

Sheldon moves to terminate their relationship, she seconds that, no one objects. Is this the end of Blossom on BBT? 8:14pm – “Women, can’t live with them, can successfully refute their hypotheses.” – Howard. “Amen to that.” – Sheldon.

8:19pm – Penny sees Sheldon in the laundry room, he claims they didn’t break up. She asks how he’s doing, he doesn’t follow. He says he’s fine, that there was no emotional bond.
9:20pm – He says he’s fine, then that he’s going to get a kitty. Is he going to become a cat lady?

Leonard says Sheldon takes the cat everywhere.

“He takes the kitty to the potty?” – Raj.

8:21pm – He named his cat Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the A-bomb

Leonard comes home to find Sheldon with a slew of cats, each one named after a member of the Manhattan Project, oh and Zazzles, because “he’s so zazzy.”
8:22pm – Apparently a group of cats is called a clowder or a glaring.

Leonard says he understands replacing a girl with other things.

8:23pm – Leonard called Sheldon’s mom who asks if it was an actual girl or something they whipped up in the lab. I love her on this show.

Sheldon’s sitting on his bed with a lot of apparently stinky cats.
“Yeah, I get it, you got a lot of cats and gave them cute Jewish names.” – Sheldon’s mom.

“We can quibble about what to call it but I think we can both agree it’s creepy.” – Mom. Sheldon does not agree. Him holding Zazzles is pretty creepy.

8:24pm – Mom calls for a cat-free dinner. Sheldon comes out to see Amy sitting in the living room. She’s there because his mom told her he’s losing his mind.

8:25pm – Mom tells Sheldon that Amy’s not suited for him. He says they’re very similar and starts arguing why they should be together. Well played Mom.
8:26pm – Sheldon thinks they might have acted rashly and that they will be moving forward. She finds being cast in the role of bad girl oddly titillating.

8:30pm – Sheldon’s giving away his cats AND $20. Weird.
